All mounts are realized in non-corrosive material (stainless steel for OPM-1, hot-dip galvanized for OPM-2 & 3), with stainless steel accessories. The actuators originate from other areas of industry (solar, automotive etc.), which means that they are on the market in large quantities offering high reliability and a good price-quality ratio. The control electronics is based on modern chipsets largely employed in robotics applications.
To note that, unlike most motorized Earth Stations, the Orbitracs systems are not equipped with angular encoders, which are expensive and often fragile devices. Instead, all OPM systems make use of pulse encoders on the shaft of the actuator motors. In the software the number of pulses per revolution is converted into mm piston displacement, and next into angular motion. The end-result is an extremely high angular pointing accuracy at very cost effective pricing.
